Friday Night Live

We went out on Friday night with another couple. We really didn’t have an agenda just an idea of visiting a place called Isadong. We took the subway and got off a little too soon. A nice yong man who spoke very little English walked with us and showed us the way. We didn’t know if he was actually going in that direction or just was being nice. We appreciated him taking the time and it is one of those things that you will repay to someone else who is in need.

We walked around the streets exploring and taking in the scenery. It was just so exciting to be out and about in the city at night. There just seems to be a certain energy. We looked in some shops but we were just browsing. Our friends were hungry and so we looked at many of the menus that were posted outside the restaurants. We finally ended up at an upstairs tea house. We took a table by the windows that opened up onto the street below. It was fun to be apart of the scenery and watch those walking by. At the restaurant, three of us ordered shaved ice. Our other friend ordered peanut squid. Well, the three of us that ordered the shaved ice won. They came as big bowls of ice with fruit topping and cream. They were delicious. The peanut squid dish, on the other hand, was nothing more than a plate of peanuts with two flattened squid and some dipping sauces. The squid looked like two big onion peels. I don’t think that it was exactly what she thought she had ordered but it was eaten anyway except for a few of the peanuts. I think we all enjoyed ourselves because we were without children. It definitely adds to the overall experience.

Afterwards, we walked back in search of the subway when we stumbled upon some vibrant city nightlife. We immediately passed on the idea of heading home and decided on getting a drink at a Hof which is the Korean word for bar or pub. We ended up at the Las Vegas bar. It was on the 6th floor of a building that had a different bar on each floor. We ordered drafts and they were good and sweet which was a little odd. We were also offered a bowl of colored balls which looked like Fruit Loops. It was interesting to see that the most popular appetizer was a plate of fruit which cost 16,000 won which is pretty much $16US. I never saw people drink and eat fruit at the same time. It was, however, a good looking plate of fruit.

Anyway, we left soon after and made our way back home. The subway closes at midnight and so we wanted to make sure to beat the clock. It was a really nice time in which we really didn’t do much but it was so enjoyable. The city is just so exciting and it is really exhilarating just to get out and be apart of it all.
